I was fortunate to watch something on Television a couple of weeks ago about Chuck Williams. He is the founder of Williams and Sonoma. I love the store and I also am a huge fan of the cookbooks. I have been collecting cookbooks for a long time.
Mr. Williams is 94 and he writes the Williams & Sonoma cookbooks himself. He is quite an interesting man. He found his passion to cook at an early age and was inspired by his grandmother. He made his first trip to Paris in 1950's. He loved french Kitchenware and couldn't get it out of his mind when he returned home. He mentioned that he was the one who discovered so many of the amazing tools that we use today. He discovered the Lemon reamer in England.
He discovered the whisk and tart pans. He is the person who convinced Kitchen Aid to sell their mixers to home cooks. Wow! He decided to draw up a business plan and soon opened a shop on September 15, 1956. Mr. Williams never married and he said he never plans to retire. He loves what he does. His company has since become a publicly traded company but he remains a partner and is very involved in the business. He donates most of his earnings to culinary and other charities. He is truely an amazing person. I really enjoyed learning more about him.
